The BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) is a service that provides BlackBerry smartphone users with access to Internet browsing, allows email messaging, instant messaging using the BlackBerry Messenger service, and more. The service also allows users to access POP3, IMAP, and Outlook Web App (not via Exchange ActiveSync) email accounts without connecting through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).The service is usually provisioned through a mobile phone service provider, though Research In Motion (RIM) (BlackBerry's developer) actually runs the service.[1] This service uses RIM's proprietary push technology (in contrast with SyncML-based push technologies such as Funambol) to the BlackBerry devices over cellular carriers. BIS retrieves email from mail servers by polling a POP3 or IMAP server and offers additional synchronization capabilities, such as calendars or contacts for some webmail providers

BharatSync provides an India-compliant solution to the mobile users across India , who are not able to use push mail capability because of low features in handsets, and high service cost with proprietary handsets. The service on even a low cost handset ensures that you remain connected to your email, calendar and contacts through the servers hosted in India. In addition, provides over-the-air (OTA) synchronization of calendar and contacts for multiple mail accounts. No need to take backup or attach with the desktop computer or laptop.

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a third generation mobile cellular technology for networks based on the GSM standard. Developed by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), UMTS is a component of the International Telecommunications Union IMT-2000 standard set and compares with the CDMA2000 standard set for networks based on the competing cdmaOne technology. UMTS employs Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) radio access technology to offer greater spectral efficiency and bandwidth to mobile network operators. If you see 'UMTS' in Settings-> Networks-> Networks Modes in your Mobile Handset,It means that the handset is 3G Enabled.

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is a technical standard for accessing internet over a mobile wireless network. A WAP browser is a web browser for mobile devices such as mobile phones,PDAs that uses the protocol..

Bluetooth technology is a wireless protocol that connects electronic devices while they are close to each another. Instead of creating a local-area network (LAN) or a wide-area network (WAN), Bluetooth creates a wireless personal-area network (PAN) just for you. Cell phones, for example, can be paired with wireless Bluetooth headsets. When used in tandem with a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and successfully paired, you can leave your cell phone in your pocket and perform most of your mobile phone’s functions using your in-ear Bluetooth headset. In addition to being paired with cell phones, short-range Bluetooth technology is also compatible with personal computers, laptops, printers, GPS receivers, digital cameras, telephones, video game consoles and more for various practical functions. The term Bluetooth was coined after the Danish and Norwegian king Harald Bluetooth Gormson ,the 10th-century king unified Denmark with Norway.

Wi-Fi, is short for wireless fidelity. A device with Wi-Fi can wirelessly connect to the Internet when it’s with in the range of a wireless router that is hardwired to the Web. Wi-Fi-enabled devices can be Mobile phones, Personal computers and Personal digital assistants etc. Wi-Fi in Mobile Phones :Some mobile phones are Wi-Fi enabled and some are not. When a mobile phone has embedded Wi-Fi technology, the handset can access the Internet through a nearby wireless router. Wi-Fi cannot replace a voice call with mobile phones. A Wi-Fi-enabled mobile phone can link to a wireless router at your home, a coffee shop, a business or anywhere with an active wireless router. Wi-Fi connections in airports, hotels, bars, coffee shops and more are traditionally called hot spots. Some Wi-Fi hot spots are free and some cost money. To establish a Wi-Fi connection between a mobile phone and a wireless router, it is very likely that login credentials (i.e. a password) will be required. Mobile phones use different technologies such as GSM or CDMA . Wi-Fi, on the other hand, is a global standard. Unlike with mobile phones, any Wi-Fi device will work anywhere in the world.

WiMax is a wireless broadband technology, provides fixed as well as fully mobile high speed broadband connectivity alongwith roaming feature. It provides users a thrilling Internet browsing experience. WiMax, which is short for worldwide interoperability for microwave access, is based on the IEEE 802.16e specification, and operates on the 2.5-GHz band.

MMS stands for multimedia messaging service, used to send pictures, audio, video and rich text from one cell phone directly to another.Though MMS content is often received by another cell phone just like SMS, MMS can be performed by mobile phones with GPRS facility.(SMS,Short message service,on the otherhand allows 160-character text message only but not required GPRS).

Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) allows for the transmission of information via a GSM network. Contrasting with SMS, it offers real time connection during a session. A USSD message can be upto 182 alphanumeric characters in length. Unstructured Supplementary Service Data allows interactive services between a Mobile client and applications hosted by the Mobile Operator. These messages are composed of digits and the #, * keys, and allow users to easily and quickly get information/access services from the Operator.
USSD messages are simple to form and easy to send. User can directly enter the ussd string and press call to send the message. A typical USSD message starts with a * followed by digits which indicate an action to be performed or are parameters. Each group of numbers is separated by a *, and the message is terminated with a #. The USSD gateway in turn can interact with external applications based on the USSD command. This allows access to number of value added services via USSD.
